What corrugated metal hose is
It is a flexible tube with a corrugated, bellows-shaped wall β almost always stainless steel β usually wrapped in an outer braided shield. The corrugations let it bend, stretch, and compress; the braid contains internal pressure and protects the bellows underneath.
How it works
It does three jobs at once:
- β’ Absorbs thermal expansion β exhaust components grow as they heat to hundreds of degrees; the bellows takes up that movement instead of stressing the joints.
- β’ Isolates vibration β engine and chassis vibration is absorbed by the flexible section rather than transmitted into rigid pipe and welds.
- β’ Accommodates misalignment β it bridges small assembly offsets between components without forcing them into alignment.
