Heat-Resistant Carbon Steel

A cost-effective option for exhaust and high-heat parts where corrosion exposure is moderate — paired with anti-corrosion coatings for service life

Heat-Resistant Carbon Steel

Key Properties

Base
Low- / medium-carbon steel
Relative cost
Lower than stainless
Strength
High
Corrosion resistance
Moderate (relies on coating)
Typical treatment
High-temperature anti-corrosion coating

Heat-resistant carbon steel is a cost-effective alternative to stainless where budget is the priority and corrosion exposure is moderate. It offers high strength and good formability, but unlike stainless it depends on a surface treatment — typically a high-temperature anti-corrosion coating — for service life in the field.

It is a sound choice for exhaust and high-heat components in drier, less-corrosive operating conditions, or where the part is protected and regularly serviced. Where chloride exposure or long maintenance-free life is required, stainless grades remain the better value

Typical Applications

Cost-driven exhaust piping
Heat shields
Structural exhaust components
Brackets
